Description

  • Drive fundamental and applied research in artificial intelligence for Figma’s product domains.
  • Design and build generative AI models and systems using industry best practices and first-principles approaches.
  • Develop AI features using techniques such as supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, prompt improvements, and synthetic data generation.
  • Work with product and infrastructure engineers to improve Figma products through AI-powered features.
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to turn user feedback into requirements for AI systems.
  • Build evaluation systems to measure and improve the quality of AI features in Figma products.
  • Explore the limits of current AI technology to create best-in-class models for Figma’s use cases.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in Generative AI.
  • 6+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, natural language processing/understanding, or computer vision.
  • Strong software engineering skills with 5+ years of experience in programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or R.
  • Extensive experience building generative AI features through prompt engineering and model fine-tuning in production environments.
  • Experience working with deep learning and generative AI frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or HuggingFace.
  • Experience training LLMs with reinforcement learning techniques such as DPO or PPO.
  • Experience with reinforcement learning using verifiable rewards such as GRPO or DAPO is preferred.
  • Experience with RL from execution feedback for coding or RL with non-verifiable rewards is a plus.
  • Experience communicating and working across functions to drive solutions.
  • Proven track record of planning a multi-year roadmap is an added plus.
  • Experience mentoring or influencing senior engineers across organizations is an added plus.
  • Experience with large-scale and distributed AI training is an added plus.

  • Annual base salary range of $153,000 to $376,000 USD, depending on location and experience.
