Description

  • Set and maintain security protocols that are practical and do not add unnecessary process.
  • Identify, investigate, and remediate security risks through hands-on technical work.
  • Own key security implementation decisions, including approaches to 2FA and other controls.
  • Partner with engineering and research teams to define workable security standards.
  • Ensure staff follow security standards and keep controls lightweight enough to be adopted.
  • Manage access across Google Workspace, GitHub, AWS, Google Cloud, 1Password, Slack, and Airtable.
  • Grant, change, and remove access as people join, move projects, or leave the organization.
  • Hold admin and owner roles on core platforms to keep access decisions moving efficiently.
  • Run cloud accounts and software subscriptions, including IAM, budgets, quota increases, seats, renewals, and nonprofit pricing.
  • Own the technical side of onboarding and offboarding for all accounts and groups.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal technical issues related to accounts and software.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in security, DevSecOps, IT operations, or a similar field.
  • Experience owning security at a medium-sized organization, not just advising on it.
  • Experience with complex technical and research projects, ideally in the AI space.
  • Strong ability to work closely with engineers, with very little coding required.
  • Experience running IT or security operations across identity, access, endpoints, and cloud.
  • Deep knowledge of Google Workspace administration and AWS IAM is a strong plus.
  • Comfort making access decisions and holding admin authority without a committee.
  • Familiarity with AI research and with Epoch AI’s work is a plus.
  • Professional-level English proficiency is required.
  • Ability to overlap with UTC–8 (Pacific Time) and UTC+1 (Central European Time) is preferred.
  • Ability to travel for three retreats per year is preferred.

  • Annual salary of $125,000 to $155,000 USD.
