Description

  • Own month-end close activities for assigned general ledger areas, including journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analysis.
  • Improve close accuracy and speed by reducing manual work across recurring accounting processes.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Engine’s revenue model and business economics to anticipate accounting impacts of product and commercial decisions.
  • Apply revenue recognition expertise to ensure GAAP-compliant accounting for existing and new revenue streams.
  • Collaborate with Product, Data Engineering, Finance, and Operations on accounting for new and evolving business areas.
  • Work with large, complex datasets across systems to support accurate accounting records and substantiate accounting positions.
  • Build and maintain automation workflows using AI tools and reporting platforms to eliminate recurring manual tasks and shorten close timelines.
  • Partner with the data team to investigate issues at root cause, assess population-wide impact, and implement scalable solutions.
  • Communicate accounting findings, data investigations, and process changes to Finance, Product, and business leadership.
  • Prepare support for financial audits, quarterly close packages, and technical accounting memos.

Requirements

  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with manager-level ownership of complex close processes in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation, especially in ASC 606 and revenue recognition.
  • Demonstrated experience building or deploying AI/automation tools to reduce manual accounting work; this is a hard requirement.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets to validate accounting outcomes, investigate discrepancies, and support scalable close processes.
  • Strong judgment in ambiguous situations with the ability to explain decisions clearly and document them.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with product and data engineering teams and build accounting requirements into systems early.
  • Start-to-finish ownership mentality with the ability to close the loop on work independently.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of the economics behind the numbers.
  • Self-directed approach with the ability to surface problems with proposed solutions, escalate appropriately, and manage multiple deliverables under deadline pressure.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite or a comparable ERP.
  • 2+ years at a regional or Big Four audit firm (preferred).
  • Experience with Looker, Hex, or similar data platforms (preferred).
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRMs (preferred).
  • Familiarity with close management tools and pre-close workflow design (preferred).
