Description

  • Work on both sides of the API by developing the client SDK and contributing to server migration efforts.
  • Help ensure Element's next-generation clients and servers are fast, reliable, and easy to use.
  • Collaborate with Element's open-source community and contribute in the open.
  • Support development across the Rust-based stack, including the SDK and core server technology Synapse.
  • Contribute to software that improves secure, decentralized communication.
  • Work with the team to balance code quality with practical short-term trade-offs.

Requirements

  • Experience with Rust and async programming.
  • Experience with FFI.
  • Experience maintaining and/or contributing to open-source projects.
  • Experience in instant messaging communications.
  • Smart, curious, and enthusiastic.
  • Passionate about building software people love.
  • Strong focus on code quality and long-term maintainability.
  • Empathetic toward both colleagues and end users.
  • Mission-driven and interested in making communication more open and accessible.
  • European or nearby timezone preferred; remote applications are welcome.
