Description

  • Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to improve search speed and relevance.
  • Design and implement new search features and enhancements to search functionality.
  • Resolve bugs and improve code clarity and maintainability.
  • Contribute to the technical direction and vision for search capabilities.
  • Build and contribute to Elasticsearch and its search experience, including work related to Lucene.
  • Work with a globally distributed team of engineers focused on vector search capabilities.
  • Triaging, handling, and collaborating on community issues and pull requests.
  • Write idiomatic modern Java code for Elasticsearch.
  • Identify and drive search relevance improvements based on technical judgment.

Requirements

  • Professional experience with search or vector databases at scale.
  • Experience using HNSW, IVF, or other relevant search algorithms and libraries.
  • Strong core Java skills, including data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas.
  • Ability to work with high autonomy and drive projects from start to finish.
  • Ability to handle technical design and collaborate with other engineers to build components.
  • Comfort giving and receiving feedback in collaborative code review environments.
  • Experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
  • Proven ability to use AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning final outcomes.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and switch between projects or codebases as business priorities change.
  • Experience building with Elasticsearch is a plus.
  • Experience with open source projects, source control workflows, and continuous integration is a plus.
  • Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives is a plus.

  • Base salary with a typical starting range of $133,100-$210,600 USD.
  • Higher starting salary range of $159,900-$252,900 USD in select locations.
