Description

  • Set the global strategy, target operating model, and risk indicators for client asset safeguarding and segregation.
  • Lead and develop a global team responsible for safeguarding and client asset management across regions.
  • Own the global safeguarding control framework, including policies, standards, procedures, and control objectives.
  • Oversee daily safeguarding, reconciliation, and rebalancing processes to ensure client assets remain properly segregated and matched to obligations.
  • Lead investigation, escalation, root-cause analysis, and remediation of reconciliation breaks and control issues.
  • Act as or oversee the designated safeguarding owner for relevant entities and maintain incident logs, notifications, and action plans.
  • Prepare management information for Boards and governance committees on safeguarding performance, incidents, controls, and remediation.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting related to client asset safeguarding across entities and jurisdictions.
  • Partner with Treasury, Accounting, Finance, Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, and Risk to embed safeguarding requirements into products and operations.
  • Lead internal and external audit engagements related to safeguarding and client asset arrangements.
  • Design and deliver global training and awareness programs for operations, control functions, leadership, and Boards.
  • Improve data, systems, and automation supporting safeguarding, including data quality, lineage, tooling, dashboards, and controls.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in financial services, asset custody, payments, or another highly regulated environment.
  • Strong track record of owning safeguarding, client asset, or closely related operations at scale.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in client asset safeguarding or similar regulatory asset protection regimes such as EMRs/PSRs, FCA safeguarding rules, MiCA, and CSSF.
  • Experience designing and operating control frameworks, reconciliations, and segregation models.
  • Proven ability to lead global, cross-functional teams across time zones and matrixed reporting lines.
  • Demonstrated success building and maturing control frameworks through policy setting, control design, testing, monitoring, remediation, and audit/regulatory engagement.
  • Strong technical and analytical acumen in reconciliation, rebalancing, and custody operations for fiat and/or digital assets.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills with experience presenting to Boards, regulators, and senior executives.
  • Experience managing safeguarding or control incidents end to end, including sustainable remediation and closure with auditors and regulators.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-growth, fast-paced, and ambiguous environments with a builder mindset.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to Coinbase’s mission and values.
  • Nice to have: experience in crypto or digital assets, payment institutions, or e-money institutions.
  • Nice to have: experience with global banking and custody partners and ISAE 3000 / SOC-type assurance.
  • Nice to have: multi-jurisdictional regulatory portfolio leadership and direct regulator engagement on safeguarding or operational resilience.
  • Nice to have: professional qualifications such as CPA, CA, ACCA, CFA, FRM, CAMS, or similar certifications.

Benefits

  • Annual base salary range of £134,010 to £148,900 GBP, excluding equity and bonus.
  • Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.
