Description

  • Own the full lifecycle of JVM-based data framework integrations, including core database drivers, SDKs, and connectors.
  • Design, implement, and maintain high-performance connectors and sinks/sources for frameworks like Spark, Flink, Beam, and Kafka Connect.
  • Optimize performance, reliability, and scalability of integrations to handle massive datasets and high-throughput workloads.
  • Collaborate closely with the open-source community, internal teams, and enterprise users to gather feedback and drive improvements.
  • Ensure developer experience by making ClickHouse feel native in JVM-based applications and improving tooling and SDKs.
  • Contribute to and maintain official connectors and integrations (e.g., Kafka, dbt, Spark, Flink, Beam, Fivetran, Grafana, Tableau, Power BI, Metabase).
  • Profile, tune, and troubleshoot JVM memory, garbage collection, concurrency, and network throughput issues.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software development experience building data-intensive solutions.
  • Proven experience with the internals of at least one of: Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Kafka Connect, or Apache Beam.
  • Experience developing or extending connectors, sinks, or sources for big data processing frameworks (Spark, Flink, Beam, Kafka Connect, etc.).
  • Strong proficiency in Java and the JVM ecosystem, including memory management, garbage collection tuning, and performance profiling.
  • Solid experience with concurrent programming in Java, including threads, executors, and reactive/asynchronous patterns.
  • Strong understanding of database fundamentals: SQL, data modeling, query optimization, and familiarity with OLAP/analytical databases.
  • Understanding of JDBC, network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP), and techniques for optimizing data throughput over the wire.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and a passion for open-source development.
  • Bonus: prior contributions to open-source projects and familiarity with ClickHouse or similar high-performance data platforms.
  • Bonus: working knowledge of Python in data engineering contexts (e.g., Pandas, PySpark, Airflow) and ability to contribute to Python tooling.
