Description

  • Participate in design discussions for software tools, subsystems, and reusable components with senior engineers.
  • Translate software requirements and design specifications into working, tested backend code.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java microservices and REST APIs.
  • Work with PostgreSQL databases, including schema design, SQL query optimization, and data access layers.
  • Integrate backend services with AWS and search/messaging systems such as S3, SNS, SQS, RDS, Elasticsearch, and OpenSearch.
  • Build and maintain containerized services running on AWS Elastic Container Service and support deployment readiness.
  • Contribute to Python backend services when needed by the team.
  • Author and maintain unit and integration tests for backend components.
  • Support GitLab CI/CD pipelines for build, test, scan, and deployment stages.
  • Participate in peer code reviews, Agile/SAFe ceremonies, production support, and documentation updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or 3 additional years of experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional backend web development experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing production backend services in Java.
  • Working experience with Python for backend development or scripting.
  • Experience designing, querying, and optimizing PostgreSQL or similar databases.
  • Working experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch for search indexing.
  • Hands-on experience building and running containerized microservices, including Dockerfiles.
  • Working experience with AWS services such as Elastic Container Service, RDS, S3, SNS, and SQS.
  • Working experience with GitLab or equivalent source control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to Terraform or equivalent infrastructure-as-code tooling.
  • Proficiency writing unit and integration tests for backend code.
  • Experience participating in peer code review and working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience supporting federal government clients (preferred).
  • Experience working in a SAFe environment with multiple Scrum teams and PI planning (preferred).
  • Experience with Spring Boot or comparable Java application frameworks (preferred).
  • Experience with event-driven or messaging-based architectures such as SNS, SQS, Kafka, or similar (preferred).
  • Experience with AWS VPC networking, application load balancers, and private-subnet container hosting (preferred).
  • AWS certification such as AWS Certified Developer – Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (preferred).
  • Experience contributing to Tier-2 production support rotations, including troubleshooting and hotfix deployment (preferred).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination.
  • Sponsorship is not available.
