Description

  • Design and implement flight control algorithms for electric VTOL aircraft.
  • Work cross-functionally to align GNC requirements with other system requirements.
  • Influence leadership decisions affected by GNC system tradeoffs and performance.
  • Develop creative methods to verify complex systems and software efficiently.
  • Build simulations to verify and validate system requirements.
  • Run trade studies to inform aircraft design and system architecture.
  • Work with the Flight Test team to design tests that safely evaluate vehicle capabilities.
  • Improve the fidelity and capabilities of vehicle and environment simulation models.
  • Analyze full-scale and subscale flight data to improve models.
  • Author software requirements and test cases for GNC software.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering to decompose higher-level requirements.
  • Work with Systems Safety and Systems Engineering to identify and correct flight control system deficiencies.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, optimization, and both classical and modern control theory.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field with at least 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience verifying GNC systems in simulation and on hardware (preferred).
  • Expertise with aircraft or rotorcraft performance and handling qualities requirements (preferred).
  • Experience with envelope protection (preferred).
  • Experience modeling physics, sensors, and actuators (preferred).
  • Experience applying system identification techniques to aircraft or rotorcraft (preferred).
  • Knowledge of fault detection and isolation techniques (preferred).
  • Experience implementing trajectory generation and/or optimization algorithms (preferred).
  • Experience flight testing piloted and/or autonomous aircraft or rotorcraft (preferred).
  • Piloting experience with aircraft or rotorcraft (preferred).

Benefits

  • Base pay targeted between $175,000 and $220,000.
