Description

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of mechatronics infrastructure for automated lab processes.
  • Own SolidWorks CAD design for custom mechanical assemblies, including drawings, PDM Vault management, and design reviews.
  • Design, program, and optimize robot trajectories for industrial six-axis robot arms.
  • Refine mechatronics design standards, best practices, and documentation across the team.
  • Collaborate with biologists to translate scientific requirements into robust automation hardware solutions.
  • Work with vendors to evaluate and source equipment, instruments, and components.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level Mechatronics Engineers and provide technical guidance.
  • Coordinate across Hardware, Software, and Systems teams on integration projects.
  • Manage mechanical BOM accuracy and revision control in the PLM system.
  • Support change management and retrofit deployment across deployed hardware and enclosure fleets.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems, Robotics Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks 2020 or later, including part modeling, assemblies, detailed drawings, and PDM Vault.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical design experience.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Basic software engineering proficiency, including reading and writing simple scripts or recipe-language logic such as Python or equivalent.
  • Experience in robot trajectory design, including path planning, collision/reach checking, and cycle-time optimization.
  • Understanding of motion fundamentals, including joint-space vs. Cartesian motion and approach-contact-retract sequences.
  • Hands-on experience teaching points on a physical six-axis or SCARA robot arm.
  • Experience in at least 3 of the following: laboratory automation systems, 2D/3D fabrication, wiring and cable termination, or PLCs/safety circuits/power electronics.
  • Systems engineering mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently own and execute complex, multi-month engineering projects with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with lab automation equipment such as liquid handlers, plate sealers, and bulk dispensers (preferred).
  • Experience sourcing and integrating technologies as an integrator for robotic workcells or assembly lines (preferred).
  • Experience with conveyor or transport systems such as MagneMotion (preferred).
  • Demonstrable fabrication experience or hands-on workshop skills (preferred).
  • Experience with motion control software stacks such as Beckhoff TwinCAT or Siemens (preferred).
  • Prior experience in life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical automation environments (preferred).
  • Portfolio or examples of SolidWorks designs and/or robot trajectory programming work are strongly encouraged.
