Description

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of mechanical design engineers.
  • Track project priorities, allocate resources, and manage engineering timelines to meet motor development milestones.
  • Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and support team members’ professional development.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for team deliverables in program planning and status meetings.
  • Direct the detailed mechanical design of stator and rotor assemblies.
  • Lead design reviews and approve CAD models, technical drawings, GD&T, and engineering specifications.
  • Oversee development of lightweight, high-speed rotor assemblies and high-voltage insulation systems.
  • Guide collaboration with CAE teams on FEA strategies for strength, dynamic, and fatigue requirements.
  • Oversee development testing and validation of thermal and durability requirements against physical data.
  • Lead triage, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex issues across design, manufacturing, testing, and development cycles.
  • Partner with electromagnetic and thermal leaders to translate analytical models into manufacturable parts.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to implement DFM feedback and support aviation standards.
  • Coordinate mechanical integration of motor components into the main engine assembly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design of electric machines (motors/generators).
  • 2+ years of direct people management or formal team leadership experience.
  • Deep understanding of electric motor construction, including lamination stacks, winding techniques, magnet retention, and insulation materials.
  • Proven ability to manage engineering priorities, schedules, and hardware development cycles from concept to production.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple overlapping priorities.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills for executive and cross-functional audiences.
  • Expert-level 3D CAD modeling experience, with NX preferred.
  • Experience creating and reviewing 2D drawings with advanced GD&T.
  • Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to electric motors, such as wire forming, injection molding, potting, shrink fits, and laser welding.
  • Experience with thermal management and structural analysis of rotating machinery.
  • Familiarity with electric motor physics, including performance determinants and losses.
  • Availability for domestic travel as needed.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality in engineering practices.
  • Aerospace development and certification experience (FAA/EASA) is preferred.
  • Experience with high-speed rotor dynamics and balancing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with hardware project management tools such as Jira, MS Project, or Smartsheet is preferred.
  • Familiarity with FEA software such as ANSYS or NASTRAN for structural and thermal analysis is preferred.
  • Ability to work without current work visa sponsorship, as Archer is unable to provide sponsorship for this position.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $175,000 to $225,000.
