Description

  • Execute first-order thermal assessments using hand calculations, spreadsheets, and MATLAB/Python models to guide early design decisions.
  • Develop CFD models and simulations to predict temperatures, heat transfer, and fluid behavior.
  • Generate, maintain, and correlate integrated FEMs for imaging platforms.
  • Perform test-model correlation testing to validate analytical predictions.
  • Collaborate with environmental test engineers on test design, instrumentation selection, execution, and data processing.
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings to internal teams, management, and external customers.
  • Stay current on thermal analysis techniques, materials technology, and industry standards.
  • Support hardware development programs from conceptual design through production and testing.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or have completed an MS or higher in engineering or applied physics with a focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • 7+ years of experience in thermal analysis or thermo-physics analysis.
  • Thermal FEA experience with STAR-CCM+, ANSYS, Icepak, or Flotherm.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB or Python, or equivalent, for analytical modeling, data acquisition, and post-processing.
  • Experience performing test-model correlation and test-based characterization of critical modeling input parameters.
  • Ability to work independently and across teams and key stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated, self-starting, results-oriented, and able to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Preferred: experience building structural, thermal, and optical performance (STOP) models for high-performance imaging systems.
  • Preferred: general knowledge of climatic and/or dynamic testing, including instrumentation and data acquisition fundamentals.
  • Preferred: knowledge of operating chambers, DAQs, and other major test apparatus.
  • Preferred: CAD skills and ability to produce high-quality engineering drawings to common industry standards.
  • Preferred: experience on interdisciplinary technical project teams in collegiate or professional settings.
  • Preferred: basic knowledge of MIL-STD-810 or equivalent.
