Description

  • Lead the full mechanical design lifecycle for rugged, mission-critical hardware.
  • Assess existing mechanical architecture, document tribal knowledge, review CAD models, and identify design gaps and technical debt.
  • Translate operational feedback and changing requirements into detailed mechanical design updates.
  • Own the CAD-to-prototype workflow, including fabrication coordination and benchtop validation testing.
  • Ensure mechanical integration across subsystems such as LiDAR, weapon mounts, power systems, and electronics.
  • Design for extreme environments, including shock, vibration, environmental sealing, and field maintainability.
  • Investigate product quality issues, implement permanent corrective actions, and improve manufacturability and assembly.
  • Manage production drawings, technical specifications, engineering BOMs, configuration control, and change management.
  • Support qualification campaigns and work cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, manufacturing, and test teams.
  • Travel to field exercises to gather warfighter feedback and provide product support.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience with demonstrated design ownership in a team setting.
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, tolerance analysis, and materials selection.
  • Hands-on prototyping experience and comfort moving between CAD, machine shop, and test bench.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and the ability to produce high-quality engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Meaningful experience managing a BOM and drawings in a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and permanent corrective action for quality improvement.
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to identify problems and execute with minimal oversight.
  • U.S. Person status required for access to export-controlled data.
  • Preferred: background in defense or ruggedized systems, including design for shock, vibration, and environmental sealing.
  • Preferred: prior experience with small arms components and features.
  • Preferred: experience in medium to high-volume production environments (100s of units or more).
  • Preferred: ownership of a complex bill of materials for an electromechanical product.
  • Preferred: familiarity with formal change management and multiple product configurations.
  • Preferred: knowledge of machining, sheet metal, composites, injection molding, and 3D printing.
  • Preferred: experience with NX/Teamcenter.
  • Preferred: active Top Secret Security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
