Description

  • Drive service-side changes required for cell-based architecture, including re-architecture and shared libraries.
  • Decompose hundreds of microservices into independently evolvable sub-systems.
  • Identify and resolve horizontal scalability gaps across regions, cells, and deployment models.
  • Own the end-to-end environments application configuration management framework.
  • Own services and libraries for private and isolated cloud deployments.
  • Design and implement changes directly in product services in partnership with owning teams.
  • Define architecture patterns and reference implementations for product teams.
  • Make configuration a runtime concern rather than hardcoded in service code.
  • Partner with Cloud Platform, SRE, and DevEx on service-platform boundaries.
  • Mentor Staff and Senior engineers and raise architectural standards across the organization.
  • Embed AI tooling into daily development practices and influence broader engineering adoption.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on architecture experience in large microservice estates, including environments with hundreds of services.
  • Strong experience with Java and Python, with willingness to contribute to other stacks such as React and Rust when needed.
  • Proven track record decomposing large service estates into independently evolving sub-systems.
  • Experience designing for horizontal scalability across regions and independent deployments.
  • Experience with cell-based, multi-tenant, or multi-region architectures.
  • Strong cloud-native background with Kubernetes, containers, and AWS.
  • Experience externalizing configuration and removing environment coupling from application code.
  • Demonstrated ability to land significant changes in code owned by other teams.
  • Ability to spot architectural limits before they become incidents.
  • Ability and desire to design, lead, influence, and deliver ambitious technical roadmaps.
  • Nice to have: experience with Vespa.
  • Nice to have: experience with private, isolated, on-premise, or air-gapped deployments.
  • Nice to have: design and stewardship of shared libraries or internal frameworks used by many teams.
