Description

  • Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and connect it to business-critical initiatives.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs across the product development lifecycle.
  • Act as a force multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
  • Own team operations and availability by establishing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting for on-call support.
  • Set code review and design standards and promote a culture of quality and ownership through writing and tech talks.
  • Provide feedback, guidance, and leadership to help develop talent on the team.
  • Build and maintain statistical capacity models that convert traffic forecasts into resource and infrastructure recommendations.
  • Translate forecasted traffic inputs into capacity settings such as pod counts, HPA ranges, and infrastructure sizing changes across regions and environments.
  • Support infrastructure planning across compute and storage systems including ElasticCache, DynamoDB, and AuroraDB.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
  • Extensive experience building highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience supporting scale-ups and scale-downs for large sales events such as Prime Day, Black Friday Cyber Monday, or similar.
  • Experience tuning autoscaling, CPU/memory, and multi-threading for compute workloads.
  • Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecations through a technical and execution plan.
  • Ability to write high-quality code that is easy for others to understand and use.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and moving between low-level implementation details and large-scale system architecture.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Demonstrated growth and impact through gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
