Description

  • Audit and reorganize the existing K–8 ELA curriculum into clear instructional strands.
  • Repackage content to reflect a consistent classical progression of knowledge, thinking, and expression.
  • Ensure vertical alignment across grade levels to support a coherent learning experience.
  • Embed classical instructional practices such as Socratic discussion, narration, writing, copywork, dictation, and memory work into lessons.
  • Identify gaps and develop or integrate aligned content where needed.
  • Redesign Canvas course structures to improve student navigation, instructional clarity, and teacher usability.
  • Build coherent module flows using Canvas tools such as modules, pages, discussions, and assessments.
  • Centralize instructional materials, resources, and activities within course modules and transition external resources into Canvas.
  • Redesign assignments to distinguish between practice and mastery work and consolidate tasks into meaningful evidence of learning.
  • Develop a repeatable course structure and template that supports consistent implementation and long-term scalability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English/ELA, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or teaching ELA.
  • Extensive experience designing and building courses in Canvas.
  • Strong understanding of K–8 ELA progression, including reading, writing, grammar, and language development.
  • Expertise in lesson design, sequencing, and alignment to learning objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and improve existing curriculum for structure, clarity, and instructional alignment.
  • Ability to translate instructional vision into a cohesive, usable virtual learning experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and align content across multiple grade levels.
  • Experience with classical curriculum or classical education approaches is preferred.
  • Ability to work on a temporary contract of approximately 2–4 months.
  • Capacity to work up to 40 hours per week unless otherwise approved.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate of $30.00–$40.00.
  • Work limited to up to 40 hours per week unless otherwise approved.
  • Pay may be influenced by geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.
