Description

  • Create original Social Studies assessment items, tasks, and stimuli aligned to state standards and the C3 Framework.
  • Select and curate primary and secondary sources such as maps, charts, and historical documents for inquiry-based assessments.
  • Transfer and format existing district and state Social Studies assessments into the Formative platform.
  • Produce and configure technology-enhanced items (TEIs) with accurate metadata tagging and technical functionality.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure content is unbiased, culturally responsive, and editorially sound.
  • Evaluate Depth of Knowledge (DOK) and content alignment for assessment items.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on content tools and item bank features to improve workflows.
  • Support the expansion of Newsela’s Item Bank with high-quality assessment content.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of direct experience writing and reviewing Social Studies assessment items on a commercial scale.
  • Experience with EdTech companies, testing vendors, or educational publishers.
  • Strong understanding of formative, common, and summative assessment design.
  • Deep familiarity with state-specific Social Studies standards and the C3 Framework.
  • Ability to accurately classify and create items across Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels.
  • Experience authoring technology-enhanced items (TEIs) and working in digital assessment platforms.
  • Knowledge of style guides, fairness, bias, and accessibility best practices.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines with strong attention to detail.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US.
