Description

  • Design and develop core features within Wowza Streaming Engine with an emphasis on testability and scale.
  • Architect, implement, and optimize live and on-demand streaming pipelines.
  • Design and implement advanced transcoder workflows for new codecs and accelerators.
  • Design and implement highly scalable packaging workflows.
  • Debug and resolve customer-reported issues, bugs, and performance problems.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects from conception through deployment.
  • Serve as a streaming subject matter expert and support other team members.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on Java development in performance-critical, large-scale systems.
  • Deep understanding of Java concurrency and multithreading, including thread pools, locks, synchronization, and thread-safe design.
  • Strong knowledge of JVM internals, including garbage collection tuning, heap/off-heap memory management, and GC pause optimization.
  • Proven ability to optimize Java applications for memory, CPU, and GPU utilization using profiling and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience with JNI for integrating Java with native C/C++ libraries safely across memory and threading boundaries.
  • Experience with unit testing, performance testing/tuning, heap dump analysis, thread dump analysis, and debugging complex multithreaded Java applications.
  • 5+ years of experience in transcoding and packaging workflows, preferably with Wowza or similar systems.
  • Deep knowledge of video codecs including H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, VP8/VP9, and AV1.
  • Hands-on experience with GPU- or VPU-accelerated transcoding pipelines.
  • Extensive experience with streaming protocols such as RTMP, RTSP, HLS, MPEG-DASH, CMAF, and WebRTC.
  • Knowledge of content encryption and DRM.
  • Familiarity with video quality metrics such as PSNR, SSIM, and VMAF.
  • Experience with C/C++ development and the ability to read, debug, and contribute to native codebases that interface with Java via JNI.
  • Contributions to open-source video projects such as FFmpeg or gStreamer.
  • Experience with Wowza Streaming Engine.
  • Understanding of build and CI/CD pipelines and test automation frameworks for large-scale software.
  • Experience creating and documenting public APIs and publicly available SDKs.
