Description

  • Partner with product managers, engineers, designers, and safety and security teams on product development.
  • Recommend product direction and data strategies by surfacing insights and interpreting results.
  • Deliver accurate quantitative analysis to guide decisions and evaluate product impact.
  • Communicate findings and data-backed recommendations clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Build measurement strategies, evaluate experiments using Bayesian and Frequentist methods, and conduct quantitative research.
  • Develop queries and code for large-scale data repositories using tools such as Iceberg, Hive, Druid, Presto, and Spark.
  • Build automated self-service dashboards using DBT, Airflow, and Superset.
  • Support feature instrumentation, data quality assurance, and A/B testing.
  • Set measurement strategies for detecting bots and inauthentic account activity.
  • Analyze abusive activity and collaborate on evaluating AI models for malicious user-authored code.

Requirements

  • Experience with experimental design and statistics or machine learning methods.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants for data analysis and technical tasks.
  • Fluency in R or Python, version control, and command-line tools for analysis, modeling, simulation, visualization, and reporting.
  • Fluency in SQL and experience working with large-scale data using tools such as Hive, Presto, Druid, or Spark.
  • Experience collaborating with product development teams to test and evaluate user-facing features on an online platform.
  • Strong ability to explain data and insights to non-specialist audiences.
  • Curiosity, critical thinking, self-motivation, and ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity.
  • Discretion and competence in handling sensitive or confidential data, with commitment to ethical data and privacy practices.
  • Availability for critical meetings and synchronous collaboration from 13:00 to 19:00 UTC.
  • Trust and safety, information security, privacy, fraud, anti-abuse, Wikimedia, or open-source experience preferred.
  • Experience with Superset, Growthbook, or other open-source testing, visualization, or reporting tools preferred.
  • Commitment to Wikimedia’s mission, values, and volunteer communities.
