Description

  • Work with Wikimedia movement organizers to understand volunteer environments, mitigate risks, and define physical security best practices.
  • Strengthen the Foundation’s enterprise risk management approach through policy development and implementation.
  • Create, document, and track risk and gap assessments in coordination with subject matter experts.
  • Improve the organization’s ability to identify and respond to emerging physical security threats.
  • Lead risk assessments for community conferences and other Foundation-funded events.
  • Create emergency response plans for physical security threats and manage implementation after approval.
  • Serve on-call to review emergency alerts, lead response working groups, and coordinate incident escalation during emergencies.
  • Brief the Deputy General Counsel and senior leadership on risks, recommendations, and resource needs.
  • Provide crisis support to internal teams working directly with at-risk communities.
  • Stay current on geopolitical trends and best practices in physical security.

Requirements

  • Substantial professional experience in corporate and physical security across a variety of geographic and political contexts, with global south experience valued.
  • Substantial risk management experience, including leadership experience in risk management.
  • Substantial experience developing, communicating, and executing emergency response plans.
  • Strong networking and analytical skills to synthesize large amounts of geopolitical information and assess impact.
  • Strong communication skills for executive summaries, detailed response plans, and compassionate stakeholder communication.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in ambiguous, high-risk situations.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with subject-matter experts and leadership on threat modeling and contingency planning.
  • Good people skills and the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional working groups.
  • Experience using digital security tools to maintain secure and private communication at on-site events.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed and collaborate across time zones, especially UTC-8 to UTC+1.
  • Interest in technology’s role in culture and civic society.
  • Written and oral fluency in English; additional language ability, especially Arabic, French, or Spanish, is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel moderately internationally, about four to six trips per year.
