Description

  • Review incoming strings to confirm they are customer-facing and in scope for localization.
  • Verify i18n readiness, including externalization, ICU patterns, placeholders, and the absence of embedded HTML.
  • Remove Smartmatched strings in Smartling when appropriate and safe to do so.
  • Collect screenshots, user flows, and feature gates to give translators sufficient context.
  • Monitor translation job progress and escalate blockers to linguists or product teams as needed.
  • Answer translator queries and review AI-drafted responses in collaboration with vendors and engineers.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including setting expectations, holding monthly syncs, and tracking recurring quality issues.
  • Create and maintain Jira and Confluence accounts for users and support new linguist onboarding.
  • Produce and update workflow and product-specific documentation for vendors.
  • Triage localization and i18n support tickets by assessing clarity, severity, and correct component assignment.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to prepare content for localization.
  • Identify and propose workflow changes, automation opportunities, and tooling improvements to reduce manual effort.

Requirements

  • Experience managing localization or translation programs in a software or product environment.
  • Familiarity with Confluence and Jira.
  • Familiarity with i18n standards, including ICU message format and string externalization.
  • Experience with localization tooling such as Smartling.
  • Ability to coordinate across engineering, product, and vendor teams simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and experience managing linguist or vendor queries across time zones.
  • Comfort with proposing and driving process improvements and automation.
  • Experience leading projects and owning client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Fluent English is required; Japanese is not required.
  • Ability to work regular Japan business hours while collaborating with a Sydney-based client.
