Description

Mentor Android engineers and promote innovation, code quality, and technical excellence.
Lead the design and architecture of complex Android applications for scalability, reliability, and performance.
Develop robotics-enabled public safety solutions, including airborne drones and body-worn cameras.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to align technical solutions with business objectives.
Integrate REST, WebRTC, and other backend services while supporting offline-first functionality.
Support diverse hardware configurations, from smartphones to headless single-board computers.
Monitor Android platform updates, dependency upgrades, and emerging mobile technologies.
Oversee CI/CD pipelines and release processes while improving automation, tools, and engineering practices.
Document application architecture, technical decisions, and development standards.

Requirements

Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related field, or equivalent industry experience and training.
At least 8 years of Android development experience, including technical or team leadership.
Strong Kotlin proficiency and experience with Jetpack libraries such as CameraX and Compose.
Understanding of asynchronous and reactive programming, including Kotlin Flows or RxJava.
Familiarity with Firebase services such as Cloud Messaging and Crashlytics.
Experience with GitHub or GitLab and integrated project management or CI/CD tools.
Ability to decompose complex problems, reduce customer and engineering friction, and pursue simple solutions.
Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with connected hardware, IoT devices, retail terminals, mapping technologies such as ArcGIS or Mapbox, or networking technologies such as MQTT and WebRTC is preferred.
Experience with distributed engineering teams, Fire OS or iOS, AI development tooling, or FAA/Transport Canada remote pilot certification is preferred.
Ability to pass a fingerprint-based CJIS background check and maintain required security clearances.
