Description

Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and strategic guidance to Android engineers.
Design and architect complex Android applications for scalability, reliability, and performance.
Develop robotics-enabled solutions supporting public safety, including airborne drones and body-worn cameras.
Integrate applications with REST, WebRTC, and other backend services while maintaining offline-first functionality.
Support diverse hardware configurations, from smartphones to headless single-board computers.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to align technical solutions with business objectives.
Oversee CI/CD pipelines, release processes, automation, tools, and engineering practices.
Monitor Android platform changes, dependency upgrades, and emerging mobile technologies.
Document application architecture, engineering decisions, and development standards.

Requirements

Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related field, or equivalent industry experience and training.
At least 8 years of Android development experience, including technical leadership or team lead experience.
Proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack libraries, including CameraX and Compose.
Strong understanding of asynchronous and reactive programming, such as Kotlin Flows or RxJava.
Familiarity with Firebase services including Cloud Messaging and Crashlytics.
Experience with GitHub or GitLab and integrated project management or CI/CD tools.
Ability to decompose complex problems and communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with connected hardware or peripherals such as IoT devices or retail terminals (preferred).
Familiarity with mapping technologies such as ArcGIS or Mapbox, networking technologies such as MQTT and WebRTC, geographically distributed teams, Fire OS, iOS, or AI development tools (preferred).
Legally authorized to work in Canada and able to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability security clearance; additional customer-specific screening may apply.
