Description

  • Design, build, and maintain large-scale backend services with a focus on reliability, availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Lead technical design efforts and document architecture decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers, product managers, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Champion engineering best practices through automated testing, maintainable code, and thorough documentation.
  • Own and continuously improve the developer experience for SDK customers.
  • Troubleshoot customer issues and promote backend and SDK best practices.
  • Support operational excellence through incident response and system improvements.
  • Help maintain a high reliability bar across the SDK engineering platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience building and operating cloud-scale backend systems.
  • Strong programming skills in backend languages such as Java or Scala.
  • Experience authoring technical specifications and delivering end-to-end system designs.
  • Strong fundamentals in concurrency and distributed systems.
  • Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms at scale.
  • Proven ability to maintain high operational excellence and mentor junior engineers on reliability and maintainability.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in collaborative, fast-moving teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills (desired).
  • Prior experience building SDKs and a GraphQL BFF layer is an added advantage (desired).
  • Ability to establish backend engineering guidelines and represent the team across the broader engineering organization (desired).
  • Passion for delivering high-quality products and continuously learning new technologies (desired).
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability (desired).
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and driving clarity in evolving environments (desired).
  • Remote role based in the UK.
  • Occasional travel may be required for project or team in-person meetings.
