Description

  • Run the engineering organization day to day and report to the engineering leader.
  • Own delivery across all squads, including timelines, quality, and weekly working software demos.
  • Lead the hiring pipeline and maintain the hiring bar for the engineering team.
  • Translate business requirements from executives and customers into technical scope for squads.
  • Manage cross-squad dependencies and the engineering operating rhythm.
  • Clear blocked work and drive issues to resolution rather than merely tracking them.
  • Set and uphold standards that help a senior-IC team ship quickly with minimal ceremony.
  • Re-plan quickly as priorities, technology, and customer asks change.
  • Drive AI-assisted engineering practices across the organization and measure their impact on velocity.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in SaaS or platform companies.
  • Experience scaling an engineering organization from fewer than 10 to more than 30 individual contributors, ideally in a startup or startup-speed environment.
  • Proven record of shipping on aggressive timelines with weekly cadence without sacrificing quality.
  • Ability to read Go, Python, and TypeScript well enough to participate in architecture reviews.
  • Strong working knowledge of the modern AI stack, including LLMs, SLMs, RAG, knowledge graphs, agents, fine-tuning/training, and evaluation.
  • Experience making build-vs-buy decisions for AI systems.
  • Ability to engage with and lead technically credible discussions with senior engineers.
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical needs for delivery teams.
  • Comfort working in a fast-changing environment with shifting priorities and technologies.
  • Strong hiring judgment and the ability to assess candidates quickly, including distinguishing strong, average, and weak candidates.
