Description

  • Lead engineering teams responsible for location, messaging, cloud infrastructure, identity, and partner platforms.
  • Set technical direction, modernize legacy systems, and anticipate architectural, reliability, and scaling challenges.
  • Establish standards for availability, performance, observability, security, and incident response.
  • Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and engineering excellence.
  • Define engineering metrics covering reliability, performance, cost, security, and developer productivity.
  • Hire, coach, and develop engineering managers, staff engineers, and technical leaders.
  • Build reusable services, APIs, and secure integrations that help product teams ship faster.
  • Connect engineering strategy and investments to member experience, product velocity, and business outcomes.
  • Partner with Product, Security, Data, and Engineering leaders to align priorities and resolve cross-functional decisions.
  • Guide architectural reviews and champion AI-assisted development, automation, and modern engineering practices.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams and managing managers.
  • Experience leading backend or platform engineering for distributed systems serving millions of users.
  • Demonstrated success developing and coaching engineering managers and technical leaders.
  • Experience translating company strategy into technical plans and communicating with senior leadership.
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems and making pragmatic long-term technology decisions.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including resolving ownership and priority conflicts.
  • Hands-on technical credibility in cloud infrastructure and distributed systems; AWS experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • US salary range of $216,500–$318,500; Canada salary range of C$251,000–C$295,000.
