Description

  • Oversee the complete accounting cycle for multiple companies or client accounts.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close activities and ensure deadlines and reporting requirements are met.
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, payroll entries, and intercompany transactions.
  • Review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and identify accounting, reporting, and compliance risks.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax professionals, and other financial partners.
  • Analyze financial results, variances, trends, and business risks, and provide clear commentary on performance.
  • Prepare and review monthly management reporting packages and support budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial models.
  • Supervise, guide, and review the work of bookkeepers, accountants, and other finance team members.
  • Lead client and stakeholder meetings and work with fractional CFOs and senior advisors on strategic initiatives.
  • Evaluate accounting workflows and help improve processes, documentation, systems, and standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in an Accounting Manager, Financial Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar leadership role.
  • Strong controllership experience covering month-end close, reconciliations, reporting, internal controls, and accounting operations.
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian and/or U.S. accounting principles and business practices.
  • Experience working with Canadian or U.S.-based companies, clients, or accounting firms.
  • Strong understanding of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and management reporting.
  • Experience supervising junior accountants or bookkeepers.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online and Xero.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with North American clients and senior business leaders.
  • CPA, CPA candidate, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent accounting designation preferred.
  • Experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, fractional CFO services, or financial advisory preferred.
  • Experience managing accounting for multiple entities or multiple clients preferred.
  • Knowledge of both Canadian and U.S. accounting environments preferred.
  • Experience with financial modeling, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, or deal support preferred.
  • Familiarity with technology companies, startups, professional services, e-commerce, real estate, healthcare, blockchain, or other growth-stage businesses preferred.
  • Experience supporting expansion, capital raising, restructuring, acquisitions, or financial-process transformation preferred.
