Description

  • Design, build, and deliver features for Toast’s payments products.
  • Develop and implement automated test suites to ensure shipped code meets quality standards.
  • Roll out features to customers and monitor their success after release.
  • Collaborate with UX and Product Management on feature definition and design.
  • Partner with teams across Toast to support delivery and execution.
  • Work with experienced engineers to complete design and code reviews.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience designing and implementing robust backend services using Kotlin.
  • Experience developing scalable and secure APIs that integrate with internal and external systems.
  • Knowledge of API lifecycle management best practices, including versioning, documentation, and deprecation strategies.
  • Proficiency with Kotlin-specific frameworks and libraries for backend development.
  • Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies.
  • Proficiency in DynamoDB and PostgreSQL (preferred).
  • Experience with Kotlin, or Java with willingness to learn Kotlin (preferred).
  • Experience building mobile applications (preferred).
  • Familiarity with AI-augmented development workflows and tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or similar (preferred).

Benefits

  • Remote work in the US, or hybrid work in Boston or New York.
  • Competitive base salary of $133,000-$213,000 for Zone A, $115,000-$184,000 for Zone B, or $104,000-$166,000 for Zone C.
  • Cash compensation may include overtime and bonus/commissions if eligible.
