Description

  • Drive end-to-end development of voice and chat AI systems from concept through production, owning the full lifecycle and iterating based on real outcomes.
  • Build and evolve integrations with third-party AI platforms and internal Toast systems while balancing speed, reliability, and scalability.
  • Design and implement observability, monitoring, and outcome tracking for AI-powered support experiences using production data.
  • Make technical decisions based on production data, customer feedback, and operational constraints in an ambiguous environment.
  • Partner with product, support operations, and AI/ML engineering teams to turn workflows and problems into maintainable systems.
  • Contribute to technical design, architecture discussions, system tradeoffs, and engineering standards.
  • Mentor other engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
  • Support continuous improvement by shipping quickly, learning from real interactions, and iterating on system performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with production systems built in Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented languages.
  • Proven ability to own complex features or projects end-to-end from design through production and iteration.
  • Experience building integrations with third-party APIs or platforms, especially where reliability, latency, and vendor constraints matter.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and making pragmatic tradeoffs between shipping quickly and building for scale.
  • Strong collaboration skills across product, operations, and technical teams.
  • Proficiency with AI tooling such as Cursor, Claude, and MCP servers.
  • Self-starter who can take ownership, unblock themselves, and drive work forward independently.
  • Experience navigating integration constraints, messy data, and competing priorities is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment where systems must scale to millions of customer interactions.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary ranging from $159,000 to $254,000 USD for Zone A, $138,000 to $221,000 USD for Zone B, or $125,000 to $200,000 USD for Zone C.
  • Additional total rewards may include overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible, equity, and benefits.
