Description

  • Manage reporters and editors with a focus on delivering news and distinctive reporting.
  • Develop creative daily ideas around NBA storylines and new angles.
  • Collaborate with video and audio producers to deliver cohesive cross-platform storytelling.
  • Work with breaking news and live blog teams to ensure accuracy, speed, and strong presentation.
  • Connect national and beat reporting to elevate NBA coverage.
  • Help define the editorial vision by planning story ideas and identifying opportunities to expand coverage.
  • Bring a distinctive, compelling, and authentic voice to digital media products.
  • Maintain understanding of engagement and subscription metrics.
  • Coordinate staffing assignments, editorial resources, and workflow.
  • Edit and publish stories in WordPress.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in digital sports journalism, including management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the NBA and a drive to compete in a highly competitive news environment.
  • Demonstrated experience recognizing, assigning, and editing breaking news.
  • Advanced ability to generate story ideas that drive engagement growth.
  • Strong ability to develop story ideas into deeper, stronger reporting.
  • Advanced understanding of reporting standards, copy editing, story structure, style guidelines, and sentence-level editing.
  • Ability to add context, preserve a writer’s voice, and ensure fairness in editing.
  • Experience mentoring writers and less experienced editors.
  • Must be based in the United States or Canada and work nights and weekends.
  • Preference for candidates based on the West Coast.
