Description

  • Hire, staff, and structure the engineering team to meet business needs, with a focus on diversity and inclusion.
  • Manage the team to deliver high-quality software in a fast-paced, agile, high-growth environment.
  • Define engineering strategy and translate it into staffing plans and technical roadmaps.
  • Make technology, infrastructure, architectural, and hiring decisions to support scale and anticipated demand.
  • Evaluate trade-offs and prioritize work in alignment with strategic initiatives and company goals.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, editorial, data science, and marketing teams to define strategy and execute roadmaps.
  • Brainstorm new product ideas and improvements with design and product teams while staying close to the codebase.
  • Hold regular 1:1s, evaluate performance, and provide productive feedback.
  • Coach engineers on career growth and help them build skills for advancement.
  • Work with engineers and product managers to improve team processes and efficiency.
  • Contribute to company-wide initiatives such as diversity and inclusion, technical brand, and hiring process.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience managing an engineering team.
  • Experience leading a team that builds both web and iOS/Android products.
  • Direct experience scaling a small to medium or large team is highly desired.
  • Experience with some portion of the stack, with willingness to learn the rest.
  • Experience with JavaScript, including React, Next.js, Node.js, and Apollo/GraphQL.
  • Experience with PHP and WordPress.
  • Experience with MySQL or DynamoDB.
  • Experience with ElasticSearch and AWS.
  • Strong leadership experience in a product engineering environment.

  • Annual base salary range of $240,000 to $260,000 USD.
