Description

  • Lead an organization of 7+ teams and directly manage Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to strengthen leadership capability and professional growth.
  • Partner with Product Directors and VPs to align roadmaps with commercial goals, customer needs, and technical strategy.
  • Help shape the broader engineering function and ways of working across the company.
  • Promote a customer-outcome mindset so teams solve the right problems, not just ship features.
  • Balance commercial delivery with support needs, technical debt, and architectural risk.
  • Provide pragmatic direction when priorities are unclear and help teams navigate ambiguity.
  • Use data to assess team health and drive continuous improvement.
  • Act as an escalation point for major issues and incidents, and ensure post-incident learning and preventative measures.
  • Contribute technical perspective to strategic planning, investment decisions, and scenario modeling.

Requirements

  • Exceptional people management experience, including managing and growing managers and senior individual contributors.
  • Experience leading multiple teams while collaborating on standardized ways of working and organizational growth.
  • Demonstrated use of data and metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to partner with and challenge Product leaders on commercial value versus technical sustainability.
  • Ability to operate with urgency in a high-autonomy, high-ambiguity environment.
  • Experience leading teams through organizational change, process changes, or rapid scaling.
  • Track record of building high-performance engineering teams without sacrificing speed or autonomy.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to advocate for technical excellence and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Strong background in modern software architecture and credibility with senior engineers.
  • Understanding of how AI-first engineering will change the SDLC, ideally with examples of leading through that change.
  • Experience working in or around education technology is not stated but the role is at Arbor's school management platform company.
