Description

  • Execute content programming and distribution strategy across articles, podcasts, and video.
  • Curate and distribute original content across The Athletic homepage, app feeds, push alerts, newsletters, and The New York Times.
  • Identify highly engaging content to expand reach to subscriber and prospective subscriber audiences.
  • Serve as the real-time curation expert for the homepage, league pages, and app.
  • Write and send daily push alert notifications for team and league followers.
  • Develop copy that reflects The Athletic’s voice and matches the needs of each platform and audience.
  • Monitor real-time analytics to guide curation decisions and homepage strategy.
  • Assist in planning multi-channel campaigns for priority content and key events.
  • Communicate with editors across the newsroom to identify high-performing content and share feedback on performance.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in journalism, media, content programming, digital marketing, social media, or a similar field, with sports media preferred.
  • Experience writing headlines and homepage packaging with strong attention to detail.
  • Data-driven and analytical mindset with the ability to think critically about metrics.
  • Extensive knowledge of football in the UK and abroad.
  • Strong understanding of The Athletic, its subscribers, and the broader sports media landscape.
  • Strong news judgment with the ability to identify major stories and their relevance to the wider news cycle.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to share information concisely with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and support high-level content distribution projects.
  • Availability to work a fixed-term contract from May 25, 2026 to July 24, 2026.
  • Availability to work hybrid in central London, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
