Description

  • Build and evolve the platform function by bringing more of the environment under code and clear ownership.
  • Own production uptime and lead incident response, root cause analysis, runbooks, on-call practices, and blameless postmortems.
  • Own metrics, monitoring, alerting, and tracing across the stack.
  • Build actionable dashboards and alerts and extend observability coverage as new services ship.
  • Manage, improve, and extend the AWS environment, including EKS, RDS/Aurora, and networking.
  • Operate EKS clusters, including deployments, scaling, version upgrades, reliability tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Keep databases and messaging systems healthy and performant, including PostgreSQL on RDS/Aurora and the message broker.
  • Define and manage infrastructure as code using AWS CDK in JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Own CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions and remove bottlenecks that slow engineering delivery.
  • Own the flow of tracker data from field equipment through cellular tunnels and AWS networking into the platform.
  • Monitor AWS spend, identify savings opportunities, and present recommendations and trade-offs to leadership.
  • Document systems and share knowledge so the function does not depend on one person.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in platform, infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles.
  • Recent experience as a senior individual contributor owning production systems end to end.
  • Substantial hands-on experience running production infrastructure on AWS.
  • Hands-on production experience operating container-orchestrated workloads.
  • Experience operating managed relational databases in production and diagnosing performance problems.
  • Solid understanding of VPCs, subnets, routing, and DNS.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure as code and automation.
  • Experience with AWS CDK in JavaScript/TypeScript, GitHub Actions, distributed messaging, caching, or search preferred.
  • Ability to ramp quickly on unfamiliar systems without step-by-step direction.
  • Strong ownership mindset and sound judgment about change safety.
  • Ability to communicate risks, decisions, and cost trade-offs clearly to non-experts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent hands-on experience required.
  • Experience with distributed messaging, caching, or search is preferred.
