Description

  • Serve as the primary technical owner for key broadcast and IT systems and ensure reliability, scalability, and long-term performance.
  • Make independent system architecture and technical standards decisions within corporate guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities for system upgrades and recommend technology roadmaps aligned with business needs.
  • Act as the technical authority and escalation point for engineering staff and mentor team members.
  • Lead the planning, technical design, and execution of major local, capital, and corporate engineering projects.
  • Define project scope, technical approaches, sequencing, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Design and approve integration of studios, control rooms, transmission infrastructure, automation, and digital asset management systems.
  • Liaise with corporate engineering, vendors, IT security, and station leadership to align technical strategy with business outcomes.
  • Maintain and upgrade servers, storage, workstations, network systems, and coordinate with facilities on HVAC, UPS, and backup power.
  • Oversee resolution of systemic technical issues and maintain support documentation to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, IT security protocols, OSHA requirements, and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Define and maintain local engineering standards, wiring documentation, and operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in broadcast operations/technology.
  • Proven track record of leading complex technical projects.
  • Hands-on experience with broadcast systems, networking, servers, and desktop support.
  • Knowledge of satellite, microwave, and IP newsgathering technologies is highly preferred.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems under high pressure.
  • Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation to support a 24/7 news operation.
