Description

  • Establish and evolve strategies and processes to meet product, engineering, security, privacy, and compliance objectives.
  • Guide leadership and teams in prioritizing security, privacy, and compliance work based on risk and reward.
  • Maintain backlogs and roadmaps for compliance, privacy, security, and reliability initiatives.
  • Coordinate with team leads, managers, and individual contributors to keep initiatives on track and remove blockers.
  • Define OKRs, track program metrics, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate application security efforts such as threat modeling and dependency vulnerability mitigation across the organization.
  • Help product teams build secure applications and improve the security posture of the Sumo Logic platform.
  • Lead security reviews and penetration tests during design and implementation phases.
  • Partner with the Security Operations Center and Compliance team on vulnerability management and threat modeling.
  • Drive reliability programs, manage error budgets and SLO policies, and reduce operational workload through automation and infrastructure improvements.
  • Lead and grow a global team of SREs building high-volume, fault-tolerant, efficient, and scalable backend systems.
  • Work with technical leadership to review architecture choices and improve backend efficiency, scalability, and reliability.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Sciences or a related discipline; M.S. or Ph.D. is a plus.
  • 8+ years of industry experience with a track record of ownership, delivery, and operational excellence.
  • 3+ years in a management role.
  • Experience owning key SLOs for a cloud-based SaaS environment, including availability, uptime, performance, and security.
  • Experience with multi-threaded programming and distributed systems.
  • Object-oriented programming experience in Java, Scala, Ruby, or C++.
  • Experience handling high data volumes using Kafka, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Agile software development experience, including test-driven development and iterative, incremental development.
  • Hands-on experience with public cloud IaaS and PaaS offerings such as AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience in big data and/or 24x7 commercial services is highly desirable.
  • Functional knowledge of global information security and privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and FISMA.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices such as ISO/IEC 27001, PCI DSS, SOC2, OWASP, threat modeling methodologies, and risk/privacy impact assessments.
  • Experience with cloud technology environments and contemporary software engineering stacks.
  • Ability to influence across all levels of an organization with strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Professional certifications such as CIPM, CISM, or CISSP are preferred.
