Description

  • Own and deliver complex backend features and services within a defined team or backend domain.
  • Design and implement scalable APIs and backend logic with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
  • Optimize backend system performance and scalability, including queries and data models in PostgreSQL and other storage systems.
  • Write clean, efficient, secure, and well-documented code that follows engineering standards and best practices.
  • Implement and maintain automated tests and contribute to continuous integration and deployment workflows.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs and production issues while minimizing customer impact.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to uphold engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with product owners, designers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Develop deep knowledge of the backend codebase and domain, and contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers and help unblock teammates to strengthen team execution.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant experience as a Backend Engineer, including 3+ years with Ruby on Rails preferred.
  • Strong experience with at least one major backend framework; Ruby on Rails preferred, with FastAPI, Flask, Express, or similar frameworks as a plus.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL; familiarity with NoSQL or vector databases such as Qdrant, Pinecone, or Weaviate is a plus.
  • Knowledge of tools such as Redis, Sidekiq, Memcached, or equivalents.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks such as RSpec, PyTest, or Jest, and CI/CD best practices.
  • Solid understanding of design patterns, object-oriented design, algorithms, data structures, and development best practices.
  • Experience with RESTful services and microservices; GraphQL exposure is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, with AWS preferred and GCP or Azure as a plus.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Familiarity with modern AI/ML services or data-intensive workflows is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in a remote-first organization.
  • Ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates AI literacy and the ability to use AI tools thoughtfully to improve productivity, decision-making, and quality of work.
