Description

  • Define the machine learning technical strategy at the intersection of generative recommenders and foundational user modeling.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional agile team across user research, design, data science, product management, and engineering to build personalized product features.
  • Provide technical leadership to accelerate development, improve scalability, and push the boundaries of current machine learning methods.
  • Design, build, evaluate, ship, and refine personalization products through hands-on machine learning development.
  • Prototype new modeling approaches and productionize solutions at scale for hundreds of millions of active users.
  • Promote best practices in model development, testing, evaluation, reproducibility, and experimentation across the team and organization.
  • Engage with the broader machine learning community at Spotify and stay current with research to evolve team approaches.
  • Partner with other teams to translate product needs into foundational systems across the content lifecycle.
  • Mentor engineers and influence technical strategy by setting high standards for methodology and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Strong background in machine learning and recommender systems with the ability to bridge research and end-user impact.
  • Production experience building large-scale machine learning systems in Java, Scala, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience training and operating transformer models in production settings, or a strong interest in doing so.
  • Experience designing system architectures where machine learning models are key components of product experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects from start to finish in close collaboration with team members and peers.
  • Comfort with ambiguity on high-impact projects and the ability to drive alignment across technical and product stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, systems thinking, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Bias to action with experience building MVPs, prototypes, and concise documents to move initiatives forward.
  • Enthusiasm for staying current on ML trends and applying emerging ideas to real-world challenges.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives and shaping strategic direction through cross-functional collaboration is preferred.
  • Ability to operate at the intersection of science and engineering with accountability to senior technical leadership.
