Description

  • Own backend systems that rank and serve personalized content on the Now Playing View.
  • Work in an AI-native development workflow by reviewing agent-generated output and ensuring architectural coherence across services.
  • Integrate with machine learning serving infrastructure and partner with ML engineers to move models from training to production under tight latency constraints.
  • Make product-informed backend decisions that improve user engagement, discovery, and overall user experience.
  • Design patterns, tests, and guardrails that keep code consistent, safe, and production-ready across services.
  • Instrument features, run A/B experiments, and analyze rollout metrics to guide shipping decisions.
  • Own production reliability for backend services, including monitoring, alerting, on-call, and incident response.
  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers, data scientists, research scientists, and product managers to turn ideas into production systems.

Requirements

  • Experience building and operating backend services in Java or another JVM language.
  • Experience working within a microservice architecture.
  • Strong systems thinking with the ability to reason about service contracts, failure modes, and architectural tradeoffs.
  • Ability to review code critically for correctness, performance, and design coherence, including AI-generated code.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code.
  • Ability to decompose problems into well-scoped tasks and coordinate multiple parallel agent streams.
  • Product-oriented mindset with an understanding of how backend changes affect user engagement.
  • Practical system design experience and the ability to reason about latency, reliability, and scalability across distributed services.
  • Comfort with production ownership, including on-call, monitoring, and operational health.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and helping define best practices for AI-native workflows.
