Description

  • Audit services, APIs, databases, queues, and data flows to identify bottlenecks and scalability risks.
  • Write clear audit reports explaining findings, impact, and recommended fixes.
  • Refactor code, redesign schemas, add caching, optimize queries, and deploy production fixes.
  • Redesign backend components using scalable patterns and appropriate service boundaries.
  • Optimize databases and data flows through indexing, schema improvements, and latency reduction.
  • Collaborate with engineers through pairing, code reviews, and structured handoffs.
  • Assess system performance under load and address critical reliability issues.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience designing and scaling production systems.
  • Senior-level fluency with Node.js or related JavaScript/TypeScript backend technologies.
  • Expertise with Aurora or comparable relational databases at scale.
  • Experience designing and scaling REST or GraphQL APIs.
  • Strong understanding of caching, queues, background jobs, eventual consistency, and distributed-system failures.
  • Experience with profiling, performance optimization, and load testing.
  • Ability to write production code and take ownership of implementation.
  • Strong written communication and ability to produce actionable technical audits.
  • Fully remote setup with reliable internet and a quiet workspace; open globally.
  • Daily use of AI tools in development workflows, including AI coding and review tools.
  • Preferred: experience leading migrations, major refactors, database sharding, or meaningful infrastructure cost optimization.
