Description

  • Build individualized college roadmaps for each high school student-athlete, including target, reach, and likely schools based on academic, athletic, and family fit.
  • Update college plans each semester as grades, test scores, and athletic offers change.
  • Track and manage NCAA Eligibility Center status from 9th grade through final certification, including core course requirements, GPA, test timing, amateurism certification, and deadlines.
  • Coach students through personal statements, supplemental essays, and athletic resumes, and provide iterative editing and feedback.
  • Coordinate recruiting timelines with Texas Sports Academy coaches and outside club coaches.
  • Help families understand college pathway options such as Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and JUCO.
  • Translate scholarship offers and letters of intent into clear language for parents.
  • Lead structured family meetings at least once per quarter and send recap notes after each meeting.
  • Develop and manage SAT/ACT testing plans, including registration, preparation resources, and retake strategy.
  • Coordinate official and unofficial campus visits and prepare students for conversations with coaches and admissions officers.

Requirements

  • At least one full cohort of college advising experience from junior year through enrollment.
  • Strong knowledge of early decision agreements, senior year transcript importance, and financial aid appeals.
  • Hands-on experience registering students with the NCAA Eligibility Center and guiding them to final certification.
  • Ability to manage deadlines through spreadsheets, calendars, and shared trackers.
  • Strong essay editing and writing-coaching skills without overwriting a student’s voice.
  • Ability to communicate difficult news to parents while maintaining trust and relationships.
  • Personal background as a college or competitive athlete, or as a coach.
  • Understanding of the student-athlete lifestyle, including 3+ hours of training per day and recruiting-driven college decisions.
  • Comfort using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity as part of daily workflow.
  • Experience with recruiting film, transcripts, and character evaluation is a plus.
  • Experience advising in an independent school or athletic academy setting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of merit aid, need-based aid, athletic scholarship stacking rules, and outside scholarships is a plus.
  • Experience running or teaching SAT/ACT prep is a plus.
