Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain ownership of individual features.
  • Own and improve reliability metrics for key features and handle critical issues.
  • Unblock engineers, consolidate duplicated solutions, and maintain shared components.
  • Improve release processes by reducing manual intervention and expanding automated verification.
  • Plan team work, establish appropriate review requirements, and drive changes to engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Own feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA.
  • Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful assignments and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major technical area while remaining hands-on.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test strategy and areas that cannot be effectively covered by tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that teams continue using independently.
  • Experience building systems or tools adopted by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to evaluate which changes require extensive review and which do not.
  • Experience working with AI agents at the team level.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and motivation to improve Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to drive change despite friction.
  • Experience with Room, Custom Views, Canvas, Paint, or Jetpack Compose.
  • Open-source Android experience or exposure to iOS, web, or Node.js preferred.
