Description

  • Own major Android features from product decisions through release in collaboration with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate reusable solutions across the codebase.
  • Improve testing, release automation, and verification processes to reduce manual intervention.
  • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
  • Run planning and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while representing team constraints.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and provide opportunities for growth.
  • Drive process improvements and address recurring technical problems at their source.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including testability limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that persist after implementation.
  • Experience influencing teams to change how they work and managing the resulting friction.
  • Ability to determine appropriate review depth based on system risk.
  • Track record of building tools or systems adopted by the wider engineering team.
  • Ability to explain how teams use AI agents in their development workflows.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and motivation to improve Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong self-direction.
  • Experience with Room, Custom Views, Canvas, Paint, or Jetpack Compose.
  • Open-source Android experience preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js preferred.
