Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions through release, in collaboration with Design.
  • Write and review production code while remaining hands-on with feature development.
  • Own and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers, consolidate duplicate solutions, and maintain shared technical components.
  • Improve release processes by reducing manual intervention and expanding automated verification.
  • Lead planning, review standards, process improvements, and cross-functional discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering.
  • Handle critical issues, feature releases, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for meaningful development.
  • Ensure recurring problems are addressed through underlying system or process changes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Understanding of effective testing strategies, including test limitations and appropriate coverage.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort driving changes to team processes.
  • Track record of introducing practices or systems that teams continue using independently.
  • Experience building reusable solutions adopted by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to explain how a team works with AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and motivation to improve Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Experience with technologies including Room, Custom Views, Canvas, Paint, and Jetpack Compose.
  • Open-source Android experience preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or Node.js preferred.
