Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions through release, in collaboration with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate effective implementations into shared team solutions.
  • Improve testing, verification, release automation, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Handle critical issues and own feature releases.
  • Lead planning and determine appropriate review and approval processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to communicate technical constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for meaningful growth.
  • Identify recurring problems and improve systems to prevent them from recurring.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Understanding of testing strategy, including testable and non-testable areas.
  • Track record of introducing processes or technical improvements that teams continued using.
  • Experience building shared solutions adopted by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to evaluate appropriate levels of code review based on system risk.
  • Ability to explain how a team uses AI agents in its development workflow.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to lead changes despite friction.
  • Self-directed approach to improving the app and codebase.
  • Open-source Android experience preferred; iOS, Web, or Node.js experience is a bonus.
