Description

  • Own major Android features from product and design decisions through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain shared Android components.
  • Own and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate duplicated solutions into team-wide standards.
  • Reduce manual release work and expand automated verification and testing.
  • Plan team priorities and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Handle critical issues, feature releases, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while representing team constraints.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for development.
  • Drive improvements to team processes, architecture, and code quality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product surface while remaining hands-on.
  • Expertise with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test coverage limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce team practices that continue after implementation.
  • Experience influencing teams through process changes and handling related friction.
  • Ability to determine appropriate review depth based on system risk.
  • Track record of building tools or systems adopted by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to explain how a team works with AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to improve Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and self-direction.
  • Experience with Room, Jetpack Compose, Custom Views, Canvas, and Paint.
  • Open-source Android experience or exposure to iOS, Web, or NodeJS preferred.
