Description

  • Own major Android features from technical decisions through release in partnership with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key product features.
  • Unblock engineers and standardize effective solutions across the team.
  • Maintain shared components through testing, documentation, and consolidation.
  • Reduce manual release work and expand automated verification and testing.
  • Lead planning, determine appropriate review processes, and improve team workflows.
  • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and support their growth through meaningful work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test strategy and testing limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce processes or technical improvements that teams continue using.
  • Experience building shared solutions adopted by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to assess which changes require extensive review and approval.
  • Ability to describe effective team workflows involving AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in improving Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication, self-direction, and willingness to drive difficult process changes.
  • Experience with Room, Custom Views, Canvas, Paint, or Jetpack Compose.
  • Open-source Android experience or experience with iOS, web, or Node.js is preferred.
