Description

  • Own major Android features from product decisions through release in collaboration with Design.
  • Write, review, and maintain production code while providing constructive pull request feedback.
  • Own reliability metrics and improve shared components, testing, and code consolidation.
  • Unblock engineers, standardize effective solutions, and address recurring technical problems.
  • Reduce manual release work and expand automated verification before QA builds.
  • Lead planning and determine appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Handle critical issues, feature releases, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to communicate technical constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for growth.
  • Drive improvements to team processes and Android product UI/UX.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test strategy and testing limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that remain adopted by the team.
  • Experience building systems and tools used by the broader team, not only personal productivity tools.
  • Ability to evaluate review requirements based on system risk and complexity.
  • Experience working with AI agents at the team level.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and motivation to improve Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication, self-direction, and willingness to lead through organizational friction.
  • Open source Android experience preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS preferred.
