Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate duplicated implementations into shared solutions.
  • Improve testing, automated verification, release processes, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Handle critical issues and own feature releases.
  • Lead planning and determine appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while representing team constraints.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for them to learn.
  • Drive improvements to team workflows and address recurring technical problems at their source.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product surface while remaining hands-on.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test limitations and appropriate test strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that teams continue using independently.
  • Experience building shared systems used by the broader team, not only personal productivity tools.
  • Ability to evaluate review requirements based on system risk and complexity.
  • Experience working with AI agents at the team level.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in improving Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to lead changes despite friction.
  • Self-directed approach to improving applications and codebases.
  • Open-source Android experience is preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js is preferred.
