Description

  • Own major Android features from product decisions through release, collaborating with Design and Product.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers, consolidate duplicated solutions, and maintain shared components.
  • Improve release processes by reducing manual intervention and expanding automated verification.
  • Lead planning, review strategy, process improvements, and cross-functional technical discussions.
  • Handle critical issues, feature releases, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for meaningful development.
  • Ensure recurring problems are addressed through improvements to systems and team practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Understanding of effective testing strategies, including limitations of automated tests.
  • Track record of introducing team practices or systems that continued to be used after implementation.
  • Experience building shared solutions adopted by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to evaluate appropriate review depth based on system risk.
  • Ability to explain how a team works with AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to lead process changes.
  • Experience with Room, Custom Views, Canvas, Paint, or Jetpack Compose.
  • Open-source Android experience is preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or Node.js is preferred.
